On the brisk morning of September 9th 2017, people from all across Maryland and beyond gathered at the Camden Yards Sports Complex for the 9th Annual Donate Life Family Fun Run. Donor families, transplant recipients, living donors, and supporters laced up their sneakers to raise awareness for organ, eye, and tissue donation.
The Donate Life Family Fun Run celebrates the lives of donors and transplant recipients, supports those currently on the waiting list, and raises funds for the cause. Proceeds from The Donate Life Family Fun Run goes to the The Living Legacy Foundation of Maryland’s community outreach and education efforts, as well as, the aftercare program and workshops for donor families.
The Family Fun Run included a 5k run, 5k walk, and 1k walk around the Camden Yard Sports Complex and surrounding area. Besides the race, participants enjoyed music, face painting, games, and food which included a special “Living Legacy” donut by chef and liver transplant recipient, Doug Wetzel. This year’s race continued our annual traditions such as the “Why We Walk” and “T-Shirt Row” installations where participants honor loved ones and show off their reasons for supporting organ, eye, and tissue donation.
