In April 2017, donor families, recipients, and supporters gathered at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GBMC) to unveil the new donor memorial wall. The Tree of Life Donor Memorial Wall, a project by The Living Legacy Foundation and GBMC, was dedicated to commemorate the lives of organ, eye, and tissue donors and their families.
Speakers included recipients James Hillman, who needed tissue to recover from severe burns, and Olivia Jones, a 13 year-old who waited 296 days for a new heart when she was a baby.
Families of donors who gave the gift of life at GBMC received a duplicate leaf of their family member’s name who was featured on the wall.
The memorial wall is located in the hospital’s emergency center. It is interactive so visitors can read the stories of GBMC donors as well as register to be an organ, tissue, and eye donor.
