On a chilly Saturday afternoon, donor families, recipients, and community members gathered at Gillis Memorial Christian Community Church in Park Heights, Baltimore, for the eighth annual Donate Life Gospel Fest. Gospel Fest is an annual event hosted by The Living Legacy Foundation to celebrate the lives of organ, eye, and tissue donors and their families through music and community. It is held every year during National Donor Sabbath in November, a three-day observance where faith leaders, donor families, transplant recipients, and donation and transplantation individuals participate in services to educate the public about donation. This year’s Gospel Fest was hosted by Palmer Williams, Jr., an actor, musician, and entrepreneur, most well-known for his roles in Tyler Perry’s House of Payne and Love Thy Neighbor. The event included stellar performances from local artists such as Manuel Ringgold, Russ Shanks, Naomi B., and the Empowerment Academy Choir. In addition to music, attendees heard testimonies from donor family members, a recipient, and a waitlist candidate.
