Our Top 10 Favorite Things About Fun Run

In honor of our 10th anniversary Donate Life Family Fun Run this year, we’ve put together a list of our top ten favorite things about the event. Leave a comment shouting out your favorite thing about the run!

1. The Entertainment

Face painters. Mascots like the Orioles Bird, the Towson Tiger, and the Goucher Gopher. Music from our DJ. The photo booth. The kids activities tent. And much, much more! The entertainment is an integral part of the Fun Run. It offers great variety to the experience and adds enjoyment beyond the run/walk. Make sure to carve some time to check out all the event has to offer either before or after the race!

2. The Exercise & Endorphins

Feeling the burn? From the group warm-up session to the 1K or 5K, the exercise you get (and the resulting endorphins!) at the Fun Run is a great part of the experience. After all, it’s what we are there to do, right? Whether you walk or run the 5K, walk the 1K, or just get your arms moving by cheering for all the participants, you’re sure to get that blood pumping!

3. The Swag

We pride ourselves on giving some pretty sweet swag to all our race participants. Our Fun Run shirts are always a big hit and THIS YEAR ONLY we’re sweetening the deal – all race finishers will receive a limited edition tenth anniversary medal! Not enough? Participants also get a first look at some our awesome new merch at The LLF store. Feel free to take a look at our the online store before the race so you can come already decked out.

4. The Food

In addition to the fruit and water available to all participants at the end of the race, some of the best food trucks in Baltimore are sure to stop by. We’ve had doughnuts, coffee, ice cream, and a host of savory options – all there to help you refuel after the race!

5. The Music

Who doesn’t love some great tunes to pump themselves up before tackling a 5K? We know we do! Throughout the event, our fantastic DJ, Adam Boone McCreesh, will keep you moving and dancing with the best tunes.

6. The People

As you look around at 3,000 of your new closest friends, you may wonder, “who ARE all these people?” People who have received transplants? Donor family and friends? Recipient family and friends? The LLF staff? Hospital staff? Members of the community who actually ENJOY running for some reason? How about all of the above! As the largest gathering in support of organ, eye, and tissue donation in the state, it is incredible to see so many people come together for our cause. The people – (that means YOU!) – are a big part of what makes Fun Run so great!

7. The Sponsors

Have you ever stopped by our sponsor booths at Fun Run? While we know it can be easy to bypass these these tables, we want you to know you’re missing out! Our sponsors are not just invested in our cause, they are also important partners in health, technology, and more! From information to free goodies, they’ve got a lot to offer. Curious? Be sure to take a walk through the sponsor tent and say “hello” to these generous companies and organizations who help make Fun Run happen!

8. The Venue

I mean, this one is pretty self-explanatory… we are next to Ravens-freakin’-stadium! We run in the shadows of greats such as Joe Flacco, Terrell Suggs, Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, and more. Additionally, the venue offers ample parking, sunshine, and space for all our activities!

8b. The Course (this one is for you runners!)

Our flat and fast course is sure to be one of your favorites for years to come. Take advantage of this big PR opportunity! With a start and end on Ravens Walk and a course that takes you past some epic industrial buildings and Solo Gibbs Park, you’ll end with one short up and down hill over a bridge and a loop around M&T Bank Stadium.

9. The Stories

Every year, we witness touching moments of people completing their first race post-transplant, meeting or reuniting with the families of their donor/loved one’s recipient, and paying tribute to the wonderful gift that organ, eye, tissue, and in-spirit donors have given. Don’t forget to visit our “Why I Walk | Why I Run” installation – it’s a beautiful living example of the many stories and reasons why our participants come together at the event.

10. And most importantly… THE CAUSE!

One of the things that connects everyone at the Family Fun Run is their support of organ, eye, and tissue donation and transplantation. This cause saves lives and we are reminded of it whenever we see the faces of transplant recipients given a second chance at life or when we see the families of our selfless donors and hear how their loved one was able to be a hero to someone in need. For the over 114,000 people currently waiting for a lifesaving transplant, this cause represents hope for the future. Why do we run? We run to honor those who selflessly gave of themselves yesterday, as well as those who believe in a better, healthier, and happier tomorrow.
