The Donate Life Family Fun Run is a few months away! Are you registered? If not, what are you waiting for? Here are the top 10 reasons to stop procrastinating.
1. It gets you moving!

Whether you haven’t worked out in a while or you want a new fitness challenge, our 5K course will get your blood pumping! According to Greatist.com, the benefits of running include improving heart health, boosting energy, and decreasing stress. Need some help training? A simple Google search can provide you with plans for the beginner, like a Couch to 5K, or for the more advanced runner aiming to achieve a PR (personal record).
2. Virtual Participation
Can’t make it to the event? No worries, you can still join the fun as a Virtual Participant! This gives you the opportunity to do the 5K your way, on the treadmill, on the trail, on the pavement, wherever you are. You’ll still receive a race t-shirt and finishers medal AND you can still participate in our social media photo challenge!
3. Community

When you register for the Fun Run, you join thousands of other donor families, recipients, waitlist candidates, and donation supporters. You become part of a community of people hitting the pavement for a cause – to save and heal lives through donation and transplantation. There’s a palpable sense of camaraderie at the event. You will get support on the course from fellow racers and helpful volunteers. Whether you come to the event solo or as part of a big team, you’ll be surrounded by our loving community from start to finish.
4. Activities
Don’t want to run or walk? Don’t sweat (literally!), there are plenty more activities for you! Participants enjoy music, face painting, games, shopping, and great food. Our annual installations “Why We Walk” and “T-Shirt Row” allow participants to honor loved ones and express their reasons for supporting organ, eye, and tissue donation.

The Family Fun Run brings people from all over the state and country together with one common thread: donation and transplantation. During this event, you will hear many stories of the impact that organ, eye, and tissue donation has had on individuals and their communities. If you have a story to share, please share it with at least one stranger at the run. Not up for talking? Write it down as part of our “Why We Walk” installation.
6. Hello, Free T-Shirt!
All adult and youth participants receive a Donate Life Family Fun Run T-Shirt with their registration. The shirt will feature our brand new colors and race branding and commemorate our 10th anniversary!
7. AND a Medal?!

In honor of our 10th anniversary, all finishers will receive a special 10th anniversary medal! Wear it every day, hang it on your wall, make it into a magnet, or hang it on your holiday tree to remind yourself of your accomplishment and your commitment to donation.
8. Support a Great Cause
While we do have a lot of fun, The Donate Life Family Fun Run is ultimately an event to raise funds and awareness for organ, eye, and tissue donation. All proceeds from the run go to The Living Legacy Foundation of Maryland, funding outreach and education efforts, as well as aftercare programs for donor families.

Looking for a good photo op? There are plenty of opportunities to get great selfies at the race! M&T Bank Stadium, the bridges, our stage, and the post-race festival in general offer great backdrops. The event photographer will also be capturing photos of the day, so make sure to smile big when you see him! Want more? We have a photo booth complete with fun props and signs. Are you on social media? Use our Snapchat filter! Also be sure to share your photos on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram using #DonateLifeFunRun and you’ll be entered into our Social Media Challenge – the winner, selected at random from all entries, will receive an award!
10. It’s the 10th Anniversary!
Being a part of the 10th Donate Life Family Fun Run means being a part of history. We are striving to make this year our best year yet, but we need YOU and your friends and family to show up! This is the year you don’t want to miss.
