Every April, we celebrate National Donate Life Month, an observance raising awareness about the critical need for organ, eye and tissue donors. National Donate Life Month honors organ, eye and tissue donors, donor families, living donors, transplant recipients and Donate Life advocates.
Infinite Legacy is offering a variety of ways for people to support the Donate Life cause this April, including the annual Donate Life Family Fun Run, dozens of flag raising events at hospitals and community events. We invite those impacted by donation and transplantation to join us at our events in Maryland, Northern Virginia and Washington, DC, and find different ways to observe National Donate Life Month. Here are 11 ways you can help participate in Donate Life Month.
1) Celebrate the Gift of Living Donation (April 1)

We kick off the month-long celebration on April 1 with the Donate Life Living Donor Day, a time to recognize and honor the incredible generosity of living donors. A living person can donate a kidney or a portion of their liver or lung to help save lives, making living donation a vital part of transplantation. Living donors can be family members, friends, neighbors, coworkers and even strangers, united by the desire to save lives. Each year, their selfless gifts make it possible for more people to receive lifesaving transplants. To honor Living Donor Day, we encourage living donors to share their donation story with their local organ procurement organization (OPO), on social media or by word of mouth. Raising awareness about living donation can inspire and encourage others to do the same and save more lives.
2) Attend Infinite Legacy’s Donate Life Family Fun Run (April 4)

Our Donate Life community and members of the public are invited to volunteer and participate in our Donate Life Family Fun Run on April 4, 2026, at the Camden Yards Sports Complex in Baltimore. Participants can walk a 1K or walk/run a 5K to honor the legacies of organ, eye and tissue donors. We encourage teams to participate to celebrate the life and generosity of our donor heroes in Maryland, Northern Virginia and Washington, DC, and beyond. Proceeds from the Donate Life Family Fun Run benefit Infinite Legacy’s community outreach and education efforts, as well as our aftercare program and workshops for donor families.
3) Blue and Green Spirit Week (April 4-11)
As part of National Donate Life Month, we invite you to participate in Blue and Green Spirit Week with us! Each day brings a new theme, activity or event offering fun and creative ways you can show your support. Here’s how you can get involved during Spirit Week!

April 6-Make blue and green snacks to share with friends, family and coworkers to spark conversations about donation.
April 7-Write a letter to your healthcare team, thanking them for all they do to support donation and transplantation.
April 8-Create a message of hope to encourage others to register and save lives.
April 9-Attend a hospital partner’s flag-raising event.
April 10-Wear blue and green for Blue & Green Day!
April 11-Get creative by painting rocks, decorating cards for donor families, making blue and green bracelets in the spirit of amplifying our lifesaving cause.
4) Be a Walking Donate Life Billboard on Blue and Green Day (April 10)

During National Donate Life Month, you can be a walking billboard for the Donate Life cause on Blue & Green Day (Friday, April 10). Don your favorite blue and green outfit to support organ, eye and tissue donation. You can purchase Donate Life blue and green apparel, including wristbands, lapel pins, license plates, flags and more or just rock what you already have in your closet. Wearing something with the Donate Life symbol can also spark meaningful conversations with others in your community, allowing you to share the importance of donation and transplantation.
Did You Know? Infinite Legacy is partnering with the Camden Yards Sports Complex and M&T Bank Stadium to light up both venues in blue and green in honor of organ, eye and tissue donors on Friday, April 3. We are also lighting up the Maryland Government House on April 10.
5) Share Your Decision to be a Donor with Loved Ones (April 12)

During April, take time to share your decision to be a registered organ, eye and tissue donor with your family and close friends. Talking openly about your end-of-life decision is important. When someone dies unexpectedly, we know it can be an extremely emotional and difficult situation for their family. Clearly communicating end-of-life decisions can provide relief and comfort so loved ones understand your decision to be a donor.
6) How to Honor National Pediatric Transplant Week (April 19-25)

To honor the children awaiting a lifesaving transplant, local hospitals will have flag raising events and create pediatric donor memorial trees. To support National Pediatric Transplant Week, you can raise awareness for pediatric donations on social media using #KidsTransplantWeek. This is also a powerful way to hear the lifesaving impact of pediatric donation and the effect it has on their families.
Did You Know? There are currently more than 2,100 children on the national transplant waiting list.
7) Tune Into a Virtual Flag Raising Event with Infinite Legacy (April 21)

Infinite Legacy hosts a flag raising event at our offices every April. Staff recite a traditional “We Remember Them” poem to honor the legacies of organ, eye and tissue donors and donors in-spirit in Maryland, Northern Virginia and Washington, DC, and beyond. Everyone is welcome to watch our virtual flag raising event on Facebook or YouTube on April 21 this year.
8) Post Your Transplant Story on Social Media
Sharing your personal story and connection to donation can help inspire others and create an online community for transplant recipients, living donors and donor families. Hearing successful stories can encourage patients in need of a transplant to ask their doctors about joining the national transplant waiting list. It also provides hope to those currently waiting for a transplant. In addition, donor families can find a community with others who may be going through similar grief journeys. Social media can be a powerful way for recipients and donor families to find support within the Donate Life community.
Hashtags You Can Use: #InfiniteLegacy #DonateLifeMonth, #DonateLife, #DLM2026 and #StoriesOfHope.
9) Volunteer with Your Local Organ Procurement Organization (OPO)

You can register to volunteer with your local OPO to support them with their community outreach efforts. OPOs like Infinite Legacy offer a variety of events you can participate in, including flag raisings and community awareness events, educational webinars and much more. Volunteers often include transplant recipients, living donors, donor families and friends and advocates who support donation and transplantation. 10) Remember Your Loved One’s Legacy by Creating a Memorial Space
Creating a memorial space is a meaningful way for donor families to honor their loved one's legacy at home. This dedicated space allows you to cherish favorite memories and reflect on the lasting impact of their life and legacy. A memorial space often includes photos, special keepsakes, candles, favorite quotes and more. This space is meant to create comfort and reflection, allowing donor families to pause and feel connected to their loved one(s).
11) Register as an Organ, Eye and Tissue Donor to Save Lives

One of the most impactful ways you can honor National Donate Life Month is by registering as an organ, eye and tissue donor to help save lives. Registering takes less than two minutes and you can register at your local motor vehicle office, with your local OPO and through the National Donate Life and state registries. By registering, you have the power to save and heal lives. Register as an organ, eye and tissue donor with Infinite Legacy.
